How I Made $10k in a Month With an Ebook

How it all began

It started off a year or two ago when I was first getting into internet marketing and web design, and was stretching myself in a million different directions trying to make my computer shoot out money at the push of a button. Needless to say, I tried a lot of things that in hindsight seem ridiculous, but I guess that is what learning is all about.

One of the methods I tried however did have promise, and I was actually able to scale it to my first $10,000 per month venture.

So what was it?

All I did was create an eBook, and market the hell out of it.

I know, people have been saying “eBooks are dead” for years but that isn’t that case. It is only dead for those who cannot think outside the box.

What I did

It came to me in a flash one day. I was browsing one of the marketing forums and saw one of the questions that kept getting asked a lot was “how do I rank stuff in Google?”. Now, this was a little after Google got done slapping all the spammers into oblivion, so things like GSA didn’t work anymore. Luckily, I happened to be pretty good at ranking back then, and that is when I came up with my idea. I was just going to provide the answer to everyone’s question.

The first thing I did was create my website. It was a basic one-page site that was designed to be a simple sales page. Nothing fancy, just basic call to actions and nice looking buttons (perks of being a web designer). Then I started writing my eBook. I kept it nice and short, concise, and without fluff. The Process

After everything was set up, I started marketing. At first, I simply went around answering questions in forums. Whenever someone would ask a question that I answered in my book, I would write a reply, tell them what it was all about, and drop a link if they were interested. Nothing spammy like BUY NOW, just value-based content.

That generated a few sales and I got some good feedback, so I knew I was on to something. I started running Facebook ads targeting people who were in SEO mastermind groups, liked public figures in the niche, or liked some common tools used in the industry. That is when my Paypal account exploded. From there, I just tuned my ads and scaled.

The Downfall

Like all good things, this was a quick flash in the pan. Google updated a couple months later and all of a sudden my information was obsolete. On top of that, a couple people decided to share my information as their own for half the price, and started undercutting my business. Fortunately, I had used my proceeds to invest in other ventures, so when it all came crumbling down, I had another steady income stream to fall back on.

All in all, this is a lesson in being prepared. The internet is constantly changing and if you plan on making this a long term business, you need to stay well ahead of the curve to even have a chance of breaking the barrier and truly excelling.
